Antithrombotic prophylaxis for patients hospitalized with COVID-19 tailored by thromboelastography (TEG) findings on coagulopathy was found to be linked with better outcomes, reported a single-center study.
Among 100 COVID-19 patients who got TEG with a platelet mapping assay (TEG-PM) on admission at a center where it was routine for hypoxemic patients in the emergency department, death was found to be 7.7-times more common among those whose treatment didnt follow the TEG-guided treatment algorithm (17 of 28 [60.7%] compared to four of 72 [5.6%], P<0.0001).
